Low Victorian vintage pigeon hole unit/storage/shelving unit - 4 Bay. A few weeks ago we heard about a derelict brickworks outside Hull that was being cleared. The works had been producing bricks for over two hundred years although it sadly stopped production in the 1970's.
The yard was left untouched for over 50 years and fell into a pretty grim state. Fortunately the original turn of the century maintenance shed had been sealed up and was untouched.
The shed housed an extraordinary batch of industrial pigeon hole storage units that were used to house the spare parts for the steam engine that powered the site. We have a number of these very very original and untouched turn of the century pigeon hole units in various sizes plus a few extra finds including some bearings, lights and even some brick moulds.
This unit is three shelves high with four bays, making twelve storage 'pigeon holes'. The smaller 'pigeon holes' are 43cm deep, 44cm wide and 30cm tall. The top row are slightly taller at 40cm. The practical size of the 'pigeon holes' make it perfect for all sorts of storage from books and magazines through to clothes.
Practical in a bedroom or living room environment, perfect for a childs bedroom, home office or hallway. The units are made from Canadian pitch pine, all retain their original paint and original stencilled numbers.
We have steam cleaned and jet washed the shelves so that they are clean and practical to use but retain their original scars and patina. These are very very rare and make great storage.
The last of our Victorian industrial heritage. Our workshop team inspect every product and carry out any needed repairs to ensure that everything leaves us serviced and maintained ready for many more years of life.
All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
