Let’s distance ourselves from the typical furniture designs and expand our horizon a little bit

There are lots of unique creations out there and, although it’s impossible to know them all, it’s always fun and interesting to discover them one by one. The designs we’ve gathered here today are not just beautiful and eye-catching but also multifunctional.



1. The expandable Capstan Unique Table.



Number one on our list is the amazing Capstan Table designed by David Fletcher. It’s a round table with a simple and chic design and it hides a marvelous secret. The table can expand from a small size to a larger one while maintaining its circular design during the process.

2. The Staircase Storage Solution.



Perfect for small homes, allows you to save space and to have tons of room for storage. The pieces features a series of drawers and the vertical set also allows you to use it like a climbing ladder in order to reach the higher compartments. The three bottom drawers serve as a staircase and there’s even a side rail for secure climbing. Design made by Danny Kuo.

3. The Evolution Door.



The Evolution Door has a futuristic design created by artist Klemens Torggler. It has a simple design and it folds on itself like an origami sculpture. There’s no need for force as the door’s folding mechanism is driven by its own weight.

4. The Flap Table Luxury Gold.



Have a pool table in your living room and turn the space into an entertainment area in just seconds. This table is built of premium MDF and covered with gold leaf. It serves both as a dining table and a pool table and it has a sophisticated design.Designed by Koralturk .

5. Multifunctional sofa/dining table.



When space is limited, there’s not enough room for all the furniture pieces you might need or want to have. It’s when multifunctional pieces like this one are most appreciated. This sofa can be converted into a dining table with padded stools and it has a simple and modern design, perfect for small living rooms. Designed by Julia Kononenko.

6. Story.



The story is another interesting piece, a combination of a sofa, workstation and bed. Designed by Fanny Adams, this multifunctional piece is ideal for small homes and can allow you to use the living room as a home office and guest bedroom.

7.Canvas Furniture.



This collection is the ingenious creation of YOY and it’s called canvas. It includes furniture which you can hang on your wall. It’s made of wood, aluminum and stretched elastic canvas.

8.Flexible bookshelf.



Another very interesting piece is Chuck, a shelving concept by Natascha Harra-Frischkorn. The unit is flexible and it’s made of six planks of wood which can be adjusted to hold all sorts of objects of different dimensions.

9. The OBELISK furniture.



This collection includes four chairs and a table, all designed for the outdoors. They can all be stacked together at which point they become a compact, sculptural structure with a shape reminiscent of an obelisk, hence the name. It’s the ultimate space-saving furniture series for the outdoors. {found on site}.

10. The expandable Mobile Dining unit.



Designed by Nobuhiro Teshima, the expandable Mobile Dining unit is perfect for small spaces. It can expand and contract easily so it can accommodate from 2 to 8 guests. It’s actually perfect for situations when unexpected guests come over and you have to find them a place to sit at the table.

11. A chair inside a chair.



This piece was designed by Flavio Scalzo and it’s a very intriguing creation. It’s basically a sculptural-looking chair with a modern and simple design which hides inside it yet another chair featuring the same design. This way you can always have an extra chair for your guests and you don’t have to hide it in the closet.

12. The Bada table/ loveseat.



The Bada table was designed by Ecosystems and it can be easily transformed into a loveseat. It’s crafted entirely from reclaimed walnut and it has a simple and ingenious design. You basically have two pieces of furniture in one.

13. The REK bookcase.



The REK bookcase features a simple and modern design and it’s very flexible. It’s a piece of furniture that grows as you add more books to your collection. Its zig-zag-shaped parts slide in and out and form voids in which you can store books. You can arrange your collection according to size and there’s even a compartment perfect for magazines.

14. The KAI table.



This is a table full of surprises. It was designed by Takamitsu Kitahara. It’s build of wood and it contains numerous compartments, perfect for storage. They’re only visible when used and the rest of the time the table has a compact look.

15. The Ping Pong door.



This a door which doubles as a ping pong table. The idea is very ingenious. Perfect for skall homes which don’t have a game room, the door swings down and instantly changes function. It was designed by Tobias Franzel and it comes with field markers and a small net.

16. The coffee bench.



This is an extremely flexible piece designed by Beyond Standards. It combined a bench and a table and by simply rotating its individual modules you can adjust it to your needs. You can turn it into two seats, a bench and a side table and lots of other combinations.

17. The Goliath console/dining table.



Goliath is a versatile piece of furniture which extends from 17” to 115” and can be used as a side table, console but also as a dining table when extra guests come over. The table has 5 extra leaves, an unusual number considering that usually expandable tables only have two.

18. Convertible coffee table.



Featuring a simple but chic design, this piece of furniture can be used as a coffee table but also as a dining table. The coffee table version features two wings on the sides which, when lifted, allow it to sit up to 10 people.{found on site}.

19. The Pause sofabed.



Pause was designed by Meike Langer and it’s an easy chair which can be easily transformed into a daybed. It’s simple, light and also very easy to move around. It’s a lovely piece for a modern living room or lounge area and it has a casual and comfortable design.

20. The multifunctional Alop seat.



Designed by Silvia Pinci, Alop is a multifunctional seat which can be converted into a table. It has a wooden base and three cushions of different sizes. If you wish to use it as a table, just take out the cushions and flip the piece upside down.

21. The Cloud Bed



Designed by studio Ori, the Cloud Bed is magnificent through the fact that it’s suspended from the ceiling. However, it’s not just a hanging bed. It’s actually meant to function in tandem with a sofa. The sofa is part of the mainframe which includes the bed as well. It’s upholstered back transforms into a headboard when the bed fame drops down from the ceiling. This allows a seamless transition between the sofa and bed, making it possible for a space to serve two very different functions.

22. The HiBed



Since we’re on the topic of extraordinary beds, check out this one designed by Fabio Vinella. It’s a truly unique and extraordinary piece of furniture and it’s much more than just a comfortable bed to sleep on at night. It has a futuristic-looking four-posted frame with smooth curving lines and an uninterrupted shape. It’s also a smart bed with all sorts of built-in extras like a 4k projector, a 70’’ screen and hidden speakers built into the frame. It works with an app which also keeps track of sleep and biometric, measures the user’s body weight, temperature, air quality, noise level and more and the frame also has ambient lighting.

23. The BloomingTable



The BloomingTable is as much a table as it is a planter. The two functions are seamlessly combined into a beautiful and modern design. The table is minimalist and features a rectangular clean glass top and beneath that a sleek planter for succulents and cacti. There’s an open gap between them which allows the plants to flow down and which gives access to care for them. The top can be altogether removed as well for full access.

24. The Bend Bench



There’s nothing that really strikes the eye when you look at this bench and yet it’s a very cool and unusual piece of furniture. The Bend Bench was designed by Ricardo Garza Marcos and has a sleek metal base with a black finish and a wooden seat. The seat is what makes it special because it has cuts along the wood that allow it to bend when someone sits down. There are 87 evenly spaced cuts which allow the wood to stretch and the seat to bend, giving the bench unique flexibility.

25. Bubbles



It’s playful, unique and more comfortable than you believe a sofa can be. Bubbles is a seating system created by designer Erez Mor. It’s made from a collection of knitted balls of different sizes which are joined together by a connector. Together they create this super soft and cozy seating unit that lets you sink in and unwind in a way no other seat can. The knitted balls are of three different sizes and can be moved and rearranged in order to customize the seat however you want.

26. Daydreamer



It’s soft like a cloud and as cozy as you can imagine and it’s called Daydreamer. This unique sofa/ lounge chair doesn’t really have a well-defined shape. It was designed by Cheng-Tsung Feng and it’s made of multiple ball-shaped pieces that are soft to the touch and very comfortable to sit on. They form this fluffy cloud-inspired surface that you can sit on and that you can shape into multiple configurations.

27. The Wave Shelf



There’s nothing out of the ordinary about this shelving unit, at least not when it has straight lines and a conventional shape. But that can change in an instant. This unique bookshelf designed by Studio Lorier is made out of lots of layers which can be moved independently and which allow its shape to change. The layers are made of solid pine and they can be added or removed. In order to change the shape of the shelf you adjust the layers and slide them into the desired position and configuration, then you lock it in place. It’s all controlled by a single screw.

28. The Cat Flat



Guided by the desire to create a piece of furniture that would be fun and enjoyable for cats to use but that would also look beautiful and elegant in a modern living room, cat psychologist Susanne Hellman Holmström and interior designer Eleonor Moschevitz created The Cat Flat. It’s a cabinet dedicated entirely to cats. It has three layers and each provides space for the cats to play in or to sleep and relax. It features a sisal mat, leather and lampskin and the frame is made of wood. Close the doors and it looks like a stylish cabinet and the cats can still get in and out as they please.

29. Legacy



The Legacy chair is a wonderful piece created by Tomoko Azumi of tna design studio. It’s meant to be placed outdoors, to be a comfortable seat in a beautiful garden, surrounded by greenery and placed in the shade of a big tree. Although the design is quite minimal and abstract, you can distinguish the shape of a boat in it. The back curves and forms a stylish frame around the bench.

30. Waves



Sometimes you just wish you could furnish your swimming pool and now you actually can. Waves is a collection of floating furniture pieces created by studio Inomo. It includes floating daybeds and an ice

bucket so you can lounge in the sun and enjoy refreshing drinks right there in the middle of your swimming pool.
